G&I Homes are Energy Smart

Winter weather is slowly making its way to us! Getting your home ready for colder weather is easier than ever in a G&I Home. Make an energy efficient choice by choosing G&I Homes and you will get a modular or manufactured home that is more energy efficient than homes built to the minimum code requirements. The Clayton Energy Smart Home package, an exclusive upgraded package offered by Clayton Homes, includes a variety of home upgrades that help you save energy and money for many winters to come. The Energy Smart package can help you reduce how much energy you use each day and help lower your utility bill.

Low E Windows – Low emissive windows filter out UV rays and help keep heat IN during winter and keep heat OUT during summer. Low E windows are treated with an invisible metallic oxide coating, creating a surface that reflects heat, while allowing light to shine through. In the winter, this helps reduce the amount of heat lost through your windows from inside the home, while also reducing the workload of heating systems.

Upgraded Insulation – An Energy Smart 3-1-2 ratio of ceiling/walls/floor insulation keeps your home well insulated for all seasons. The R-33 ceiling insulation, R-22 floor insulation and R-19 wall insulation help keep warm air in during the winter.

Programmable Thermostat – Save additional money by setting your desired temperature throughout the day. This increases the comfort of your family and locks in the savings when you’re home and away. Conveniently located in an area that doesn’t fluctuate with the opening of an exterior door and backlit for quick changes in temperature at night.

Energy Efficient (CFL) Light Bulbs – Less daylight in winter means a greater need for light in your home! Energy efficient light bulbs typically use 25% less energy and last 10 to 20 times longer than standard iridescent light bulbs. This is equivalent to $30-$80 in savings in electricity over the life of the bulb.

Sealed Duct Work - Additional sealants are placed around ducts, which prevent leaks and make for a more efficient central heating and cooling system. This consistent air flow ensures a comfortable temperature in the home year-round. Sealed ducts also prevent condensation, keeping unwanted moisture out of the subfloor.

Energy Efficient Water Heater - Since water heaters consume a high amount of energy and we use them often, an energy efficient water heater is key to reducing your energy costs! Residential water heating is the second largest energy use in the home and can account for up to 20% of overall energy consumption. Thicker side walls in a water heater help maintain the water temperatures longer, retaining more heat and using less energy.

Thermo Mate-Line Gasket – The mate-line gasket is installed all the way around the ceiling, end walls, and floor to protect the entire conditioned space from air filtration and moisture. Other home installers typically stuff insulation in the marriage line opening, which won’t do any good against air filtration as its not deigned to be compressed.

Air Tight Construction – This is always a top priority in the homes we build. Our air tight construction helps to eliminate drafts which boosts comfort while lowering energy consumption and costs.

Improved Air Filtration – Breathe fresh, clean air using the type of filters that fit your family best. The “A-coil” hosing increases return air efficiency, reducing the possibility of a system freeze up.

By purchasing a modular home or manufactured home that is ENERGY STAR certified, you are joining millions of consumers who have switched to ENERGY STAR, helping our nation reduce our energy needs and building a cleaner environment for the future.
