1. Pantone Color of the Year – We are ULTRA excited to take on this design hurdle. Color authority Pantone just announced the 2018 Color of the Year: Ultra Violet! This purple shade is sure to prompt passionate discussion among design pros and enthusiasts. Pantone says the color “communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking.”

2. Fresh and Patterned Plants – Not only are they good for you, but plants are pretty, too! Anything from a bouquet of flowers to a cute little bush can provide a sense of freshness to your space. Plants have been the obsession for years, so try branching out (pun intended) and get a plant this year that comes with vibrant patterns and hues. If you’re looking for a style upgrade and the word “fresh” frighens you, don’t fret. There are some amazing, lifelike faux options out there to help you avoid killing a plant.

4. Bookish Chic – This one is a shock. As technology has become a fixture in our daily lives, books and magazines have become vintage. But not anymore! The old school library vibe is making a come back in 2018. Whether they are shelf candy, bolstering an existing reading space, or hanging on the walls like artwork, books and paper can fit in with any décor. It’s all about paper and real books. Bookshelves in the kitchen, cozy sofas and anything that creates the look and feel of an old school library.

5. Natural Lighting – Natural light is one of the best ways to add the illusion of space to a room. Larger windows bring nature’s light into your room and open up your space. For rooms where windows are not an option, contemporary ceiling fixtures and our Energy Efficient LED lightbulbs can provide a similar sort of natural light.

6. Open Storage - Struggling to find closet space is a thing of the past. Open concept living formats have been in style for a while now, but storage space out in the open is the latest direction this trend is taking. Hanging hats on walls or putting coffee mugs on a hook not only provide convenience, but also lend a bit of chicness to your decor.

7. Statement Ceilings – Adding pops of color or patterns to your walls is great, but have you ever thought of having an accent ceiling? As mentioned in a previous blog, don't forget about the fifth wall - the ceiling! Whether it’s the Ultra Purple Pantone color of the year or a planked wood look, statement ceilings are the way to go!

8. Colorful Doors - Give your guests a bright and cheery welcome with a door that isn’t just any old basic shade. From traditional doors to shutters, a colorful hue is always appreciated! Speaking of accent walls and ceilings, don’t leave out the interior doors either. They can add a pop of color to any room.

9. Coffee Bars - Move over alcohol, coffee is taking over the bar scene. Why change out of your PJs when you can be your own barista with a designated place to make your morning pick-me-up and everything that comes with it. Styled with a chalkboard and a variety of mugs, this space will put those expensive coffee shops to shame.

10. Velvety Vibrations – It’s not a surprise that velvet is still trending from 2017 to 2018 now. And it’s not just in fashion; velvet is trending everywhere! From couches to rugs to pillows, using velvet adds both luxury and coziness to a room. A little too bold for you? Start small by throwing in some upholstered accent pillows or throws to give this trend a test drive.
